NY Giants: Superbowl XLII Champions

Congratulations to the New York Giants for doing the unthinkable and spoiling the Pat’s perfect season. What a ride, and a very very close game to the end. That’s all I have to say. If you want analysis, go to a sports website, I am just going to talk about how I will never forget this moment: Sophomore year, and the complete craziness after it was over. I was so tense during the game, I absolutely wrecked a water bottle by squeezing it and throwing it – now I have a souvenir.

New England and Boston teams have had enough glory the past few years, so it’s about time New York is celebrating. Now, if only I had my voice back from all that screaming. D’OH!!

Hello from Iona

Welcome to the Portfolioso.com coverage of the Iona vs. Fairfield game, reporting live delayed from the Hines Athletic Center. Don’t make fun of me, I am not a trained sportswriter and am not affiliated with anything. I also make poor travel decisions: an evening trip to Westchester, only to go back to school later and then come back to Westchester again the next day. Then Fairfield again the day after that… But that’s not the point.

Few game/ campus notes: The campus security cars went around nonstop with annoying flickering yellow lights that almost gave me a seizure – very unnecessary. The dance team had some Led Zeppelin in their performance which was impressive, but they also had some weird kind of bubbleboy contest. Iona’s old man pep band was interesting and played the Super Mario theme, Family Guy theme and other interesting songs (hint to Fairfield’s pep band – learn new material, it’s getting old hearing Impression 20 times). The stands were a little empty since Iona is still on break until Monday. A few hecklers were picking on Han calling out “blowout” and “Yeager Bombs” (Watch “my new haircut” on Youtube). Although last year, my aunt (a Gaels fan) gave Han shit about his appearance. Now that I’m off topic, this is why I don’t write for the Mirror. Anyway…

The Stags had a decent first quarter: the lead changed 8 times and they were only down by 4. In the second half, it all went downhill for the Stags. Cooley was pissed, the jacket came off and he got ejected. This kid Prodanovic kept hitting 3 pointers and the Stags ended up losing 67-52. 21 turnovers for the Stags. This is terrible coverage by the way – you should check out Keith’s game summary – he knows what he’s talking about, unlike me.

Then we left and went to McDonalds, and Eric L. doesn’t believe that New Rochelle High School is huge and has its own lake/pond. Until next time (actually probably not this was a special treat).

I Hate Fox and ESPN Announcers

There is nothing more annoying than trying to watch a baseball game with FOX or ESPN announcers. They are the most biased idiots around, and really get on my nerves. This weekend during the Yankees/ Red Sox games, the two morons on ESPN (Jon Miller and Joe Morgan) would always scream with excitement whenever Boston players hit or scored. However, the times the Yankees did something interesting, they would be nonchalant and just talk as if it were no big deal. “OMG. BASE HIT!! LOOK AT ORTIZ!!! HE’S A YANKEE KILLER” vs “Oh, look at that home run over there by Cano. How nice.” When the Yankees beat Boston 14-5, ESPN picked a Manny Ramirez home run as the play of the game. With all of the crazy Yankee hitting, the most important, best hit ever was Manny. Give me a break.

No I’m not a whining Yankee fan. I just want to hear unbiased announcers for both sides. If you want to yell at a hit, do it for both teams – that’s the point. Even the YES announcers (on a channel dedicated towards the Yankees) are less biased and show some excitement towards the other team.

Congratulations Chicago White Sox

As a Yankee fan, I’d like to congratulate the Chicago White Sox for winning the World Series. They haven’t done so in 88 years and I have specific reasoning for why I support the White Sox over the Astros.

First of all, I was watching ESPN, and there was this 96 year old man who was a kid when the White Sox won a World Series. Fox interviewed him and I figured that he’s old an probably won’t see this again in his life, so Chicago might as well win.

Most importantly, I’m glad the Astros lost for one reason – that Roger Clemens did NOT deserve a World Series ring. That old bag is a traitor to the Yankees and I lost all respect for him after he announced his retirement, then suddenly signed with the Astros. This clever scheme enabled him to leave the Yankees and return to his redneck land of Texas. Quick off topic side-note – David Wells went to Boston and was booed in Yankee Stadium. I still respect Wells because it was not his choice to leave, rather, Steinbrenner being a selfish fool (who spends hundreds of millions of dollars to lose)

Bad Start in 2005

The Yankees suck. Nothing much more to say. After beating Boston twice, they quickly dissolved into crap, with the past two games getting worse. Don’t mind this negative, highly critical post – I don’t give anyone a chance.

Mariano is old and blew two saves in a row. The first time, he was lucky and the Yankees won – but he’s still an idiot because Pavano pitched a good game and deserved the win and didn’t get it. What the hell is wrong with him? Michael Kay is a commentator on YES and was shocked when Yankee fans booed him off the field after helping the Yankees win since the mid 90s. Yeah that’s true, but we’re taking about now, not the past. What about the World Series he blew? What about all the blown saves in last years’ ALCS? Steinbrenner better buy another closer. Ever since Rivera had that tragedy in his family, he hasn’t been the same.

Of course it’s not all Rivera’s fault. A-Rod is baseball’s richest player and we pay him to make fielding errors. If he turned a double play, the Yankees would have won. If he just got one out, the Yankees would have won because Rivera got the next batter out. A-rod has been good for shit since he became a Yankee. A-Rod will be a flop and will totally suck next year, mark my words. If you ever compared him to his Texas or Seattle days, he is an average player. And usually anyone who was good and came to the Yankees turned out to be a flop. Look at Giambi. He was excellent and came there and was crap last year. What the hell happened to Wright? Pitched like an asshole giving up way too many runs. Mr. Atlanta Ace.

Bernie Williams needs to retire. He is 0 for the season and can’t hit. The old bag has been here for 15 years and was very good, but when you start embarrassing yourself, just leave. Don’t get me wrong. I <3 Bernie - great player who did wonderful things over the years, but lately not so much. Same thing with Tino. He's OLD. Everyone makes this big stink about him coming back. The fans are cheering him for everything he has done in the 90s. Again, this is not the 90s. He's old and shot. Tony Clark was a better first baseman that filled in for Giambi. Who do we have now? Two fools: a ball-shrunken steroid addict who is too worn out to play 1B everyday, so they replace him with Tino, who is no good but is just there to make the fans happy. Making the fans happy does not win games. And Roger Clemens is an idiot. He pulled this "I'm retiring" crap prior to the start of last season and collects dirt from ballparks for his sons. Then he says "Oops. I lied! I'm gonna pitch another year with the Astros. So he comes back and is still there. Last year he had a great year and this year he's still pitching at 42 and just pitched a brilliant one hitter with 9 strikeouts. We needed him in pinstripes. Not these other pitching morons who don't know what they're doing. If he wanted to pitch for his hometown, fine. Why don't you say so. He wasn't in a contract anyway. But don't say you're retiring. By the way as sad as it is I still respect him because he's one of the few people who knows how to pitch well. And now for the positives: Matsui is decent and will probably have a good year. Possibly Sheffield and Randy Johnson. But despite their good seasons, we won't be seeing the Yankees in October. 😡
