But I Don’t Know My Date!

This is an official excerpt from a form (not photoshopped in any way) given out by Rothschild:

First off, as far as I’m concerned, it’s 2006 (But she did catch that error and apologized). However, what really struck me was: If you do not know the name of your date, write Date Ummm. I don’t know about you people but I think it’s kind of bad if you don’t know the name of the person you’re taking to the prom. Heh – a blind prom.. Lollers.

Yes, I understand that it was worded badly. What it really meant to say was (since it was asking for a list of people at the table): “If you don’t know the name of someone else’s date (At your table), please write date…” Or, it could have meant that you didn’t presently have a date yet and would be getting one soon. See what happens when things are worded vaguely?

Junior Stay-Awakeathon

Tonight was awesome. I am so jealous of the junior class for having a Stay-awakeathon. We were supposed to have one sophomore year, but everything gets taken away from us. Anyway, last year at our class meeting, everyone was so angry about losing the junior prom, that they overreacted to the idea of a stay-awakeathon. Instead we had a really crappy junior dance/ ring night that no one went to anyway.

After the LEO concert was over, Jess and I decided that we weren’t leaving the school until we “visited” the juniors and went on the jumping castle. So anyway, we got permission to enter and completely crashed the party. It was funny because we really stood out – all dressed up and the only seniors there (except Tom who visited for a bit). Here I am in a shirt and tie playing like a little kid on the jumping castle! w00t! After that I proceeded to play DDR (and sucked majorly), followed by some volleyball (woot because – I didn’t suck) and badminton (I didn’t suck either!). Then I and stuffed my face with all the food there. The awesome part was that all of the chaperones were very nice to us and even said let us stay the whole night (I had to go anyway, so it didn’t really matter). Actually, there was one person trying to throw Jess and I out but I don’t mention names here, but s/he left before we did and higher authority had no problem with us staying. I even donated money to the junior class because it isn’t right to just crash and be a freeloader… But yeah, I spoke to a lot of juniors and teachers, chilled there for a while and just had a good old time. If I didn’t have to get up early the next morning, I would have stayed. But I got to talk to a lot of cool people and it by the time I said bye to everyone it took me like 20 minutes to get out the door.

Good times…

Spammer Fool

This post is designed to publicly humiliate a moron who registered three accounts on my website. These accounts have been registered by the same idiot: will – [email protected], willm – [email protected] and willmo – [email protected] Is there any need to have three different accounts on a stupid little blog?

Even though publishing these email addresses is probably useless (because anyone can make a fake yahoo account), I am doing this to prove that I will expose private information if you are a spamming asshole. Usually, the email addresses are not visible to the public, but I would like to personally acknowledge the fact that this pimp shizzle gangsta moron shouldn’t mess with Portfolioso. The accounts have been deleted and if the registration process continues to be abused, I’m disabling it.

Last Day of Classes

Today was my last day of classes because I will be starting my internship Monday. I had my last final and am finished with everything (except one essay, which I really don’t feel like doing). The past two weeks were uber boring because in every class we literally did nothing (so many kids were missing because of WISE and APs). It’s strange knowing you don’t have to go to classes anymore, especially this early in the year. Don’t worry though, I’ll be in school Fridays just to hang out there to take care of some remaining work.

Optimum Online Blocks Limewire

Edit: Limewire may or may not be blocked anymore. Some people are now reporting being able to connect.

It’s official. If you’re on Optimum Online, you won’t be connecting to Limewire’s network because they have taken measures to block all of peer to peer traffic. Besides Limewire, some other P2P applications are also affected.

In order to get around this, you kind of have to know what you are doing and it is beyond the basic skill level of average computer users. I am not giving detailed instructions here (Google it), but this is basic idea: 1) In Limewire options you have to change the default port. 2) Forward that port in your router control panel to the internal IP of the computer on your network.

This is completely uncool. Not all P2P traffic is illegal. There are perfectly legal things licensed under Creative Commons that are free to distribute (free internet shows, podcasts etc.). The whole point of P2P is not piracy, but rather to take a load off one central server and distribute the content among users. This is useful for linux distributions and other things of that nature. I lost most of my respect for Optimum Online and Cablevision as a result of this. For a while, I always thought cable was good because of it’s high speeds. However, many people started complaining that excessive bandwidth usage led to individual bandwidth capping restrictions. Optimum online is doing this because it is less expensive for them when customers use less bandwidth. And that is not the point of paying for internet access.
