New Menus

I was sick of the old menus and the retarded text links that were on all of my pages. So I decided to make one image with nice buttons – something that matches the site layout. Then, I mapped links into the image and bingo, we have a nice new navigation menu. Redoing the menus was in my mind for the past year, but I was either too tired, too lazy or lacked the knowlege to do it well. I tried it a while ago unsucessfully and it was horrid. Now, I think it’s decent.

I also did another big update that isn’t not noticable to you people. It’s useless for me to explain the technical stuff here, but all you need to know is that if I ever need to change the menus again, I’d only need to edit one thing and not twenty individual pages. This involved changing some page names around, along with switching from html to shtml. Since I’m not perfect, it’s possible that there might be dead links on this site. As far as I know, everything’s okay but if you click on a dead link, help me out and report it on the forums.

Schedules Came Today

Schedules for the 2004-2005 school year arrived today. One thing that I hate is when 500 people IM me and ask me who I have. Therefore, there is a nice little thread on my forums where I posted my schedule and everyone else can post it if they want.

Verizon Fios

The past week, Verizon’s been installing some fiber optic lines on my block. So I was researching some things and I learned that they are the first phone company to do this in prepration for Fios. Fios will be a high speed internet that will blow away DSL and even cable. Currently, DSL goes 1.5 MBPS down and 128 KBPS up. Cable goes anywhere from 2.5 – 4 MBPS up and up to 1 MBPS down (depending on usage in the neighborhood).

Fios will run 5 MBPS down and 2 MBPS up for the $39.99/ month plan and 15 MBPS down and 2 MBPS up for the $50/ month plan. That’s nuts. I can’t wait until it’s available here (they already started putting new wires, so hopefully soon). Very fast! Verizon will provide a router, free installation, 9 email accounts and MSN. It’s nuts. I can’t believe it. And reasonable, also. Go to http://verizon.net/fiber for more information.

Hurricane Charley

Hurricane Charley caused some downtime for this site. Aparently, the datacenter where my site is hosted is located in Orlando, Florida. There must have been a power outage as the storm passed. My host claimed to have generators and I don’t know if they’re running now or if the area has power, but if you’re reading this and if I’m posting, it’s up. I was worried that the datacenter was trashed or something because my files weren’t properly backed up. I’ll have to do some backup in the event that this happens again, but is worse. Thanks for the understanding.

Back

As you know I wasn’t online all of last week. Then I came home Saturday and left on Sunday and just got back now. Ugh, it’s terrible having no access to a computer for such extended periods of time. However, I did a little thinking while I was gone and I will say that there are going to be a few new pages added to this site in the near future. See, when you’re not rotting in front of a computer, your brain thinks a little bit. Anyway. I’m done.
